Drishyam franchise hits Rs. 519.67 cr, enters Hindi Top 10

The Drishyam franchise has crossed Rs. 519.67 crore in combined India nett collections, pushing past the Singham franchise’s Rs. 509.27 crore and into the Top 10 of Hindi film franchises. The trigger is Drishyam The Conclusion, which has collected Rs. 212 crore nett so far and is still running.

The franchise math

This is a story of compounding, not a single breakout weekend. The 2015 original closed at Rs. 67.13 crore. Drishyam 2 waited seven years and delivered Rs. 240.54 crore, more than tripling the first film. Those two instalments had already built a base of Rs. 307.67 crore.

  • Drishyam (2015): Rs. 67.13 crore
  • Drishyam 2: Rs. 240.54 crore
  • Drishyam The Conclusion: Rs. 212 crore and counting
  • Franchise total: Rs. 519.67 crore

The third film alone has added more than two-thirds of what the first two films made together. Before its release, the franchise sat at No. 21 on the Hindi franchise chart. An opening weekend of Rs. 174 crore immediately lifted the combined tally to around Rs. 481.67 crore; the next weeks have carried it past the Top 10 threshold.

Why this matters for the business

Drishyam was never built as a spectacle franchise. Its value comes from plot, character and word-of-mouth, which makes the Top 10 entry more instructive than a VFX-heavy series hitting the same mark. For media planners and entertainment marketers, the number changes how the IP will be valued: future instalments, licensing conversations, OTT catalogue placements and talent deals now start from a higher base.

The practical planning lesson is to model a sequel’s floor from the previous film’s closing total, not from its opening day. Drishyam 2’s Rs. 240.54 crore set a new floor, and the third instalment has absorbed that base audience while still finding new viewers.

What to watch

Because the film is still collecting, the franchise can move further up the all-time Hindi chart. The key debate is whether cumulative franchise totals are the right valuation metric: they capture IP equity across years, but they also mix films released in very different market conditions. Either way, Ajay Devgn now has a second major theatrical property alongside Singham, and a proof point that story-led franchises can reach blockbuster scale.
