Drishyam 3’s ₹177-crore open beats Sikandar, first film

Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3 has turned a sequel into an event-film opening. Released on 2 October as Drishyam: The Conclusion, the film grossed ₹177 crore worldwide in its first two days, according to trade reports cited by Bhaskar English.

The first two days in numbers

The India net figure reached ₹115.50 crore in two days. Saturday contributed ₹53.50 crore, after a ₹62-crore opening Friday. The two-day India gross was ₹138.60 crore, while international markets added about $4 million, roughly ₹33 crore.

The opening day itself had already set the pace with a ₹93-crore worldwide gross. The two-day result puts the film among the top 10 highest-grossing Hindi releases of the year.

  • ₹177 crore: two-day worldwide gross
  • ₹115.50 crore: two-day India net
  • ₹53.50 crore vs ₹62 crore: Saturday vs Friday India net
  • ₹50 crore-plus: pre-release advance bookings
  • $4 million: international gross so far

Why the benchmarks matter

The two-day total is significant because of the records it clears. Salman Khan’s Sikandar ended at ₹176 crore, and the original Drishyam from 2015 finished at ₹107 crore. Drishyam 3 passed both in a single weekend.

For distribution and exhibition, that is franchise equity showing up in ticket sales. Audiences are not being introduced to the Vijay Salgaonkar story again; they are returning to it. Advance bookings crossing ₹50 crore before release show that demand was already committed, and Saturday’s roughly 14% dip from Friday suggests the film held rather than collapsed.

Cast and franchise continuity

Directed by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam 3 brings back Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Mrinal Jadhav and Kamlesh Sawant. Saurabh Shukla has a cameo, while Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj join as new characters. The returning core is part of the commercial logic: familiar faces reduce the need to re-explain the premise and keep the franchise promise intact.

The screen-share effect

The pressure on incumbent titles is already visible. Hanuman Ansh, now in its ninth weekend, collected ₹1.59 crore net on day 58. The arrival of Drishyam 3 has squeezed its screens and show counts, even though Hanuman Ansh had built a strong ₹321.22 crore net run in India, ₹379.39 crore gross, through word of mouth.

What to watch next

For media planners and film marketers, the next indicator is the weekday hold. A ₹177-crore two-day gross is a demand signal, but converting that into a long theatrical run depends on Monday-to-Thursday retention. Drishyam 3 is a clean case in sequel economics: opening strength came from accumulated equity, and the next leg must come from repeat and late-adopter audiences.
