Marvel’s Avengers Endgame: Encore is moving like a first-run franchise title rather than a library reissue. According to trade data accessed by Bollywood Hungama, the film had sold roughly 45,000 tickets by 12 noon on September 15, with its India release still ten days away on September 25.
That is an unusually strong advance position for a re-release. If the current velocity holds, ticket sales should cross the 100,000 mark well before opening day. The result is a theatrical event that can justify more screens, better showtimes and premium-format placement.
The re-release benchmark
Day-one comparisons show how high the bar is for an older title returning to cinemas:
- Baahubali: The Epic — the remastered combined edition of both films — holds the India re-release day-one record at around Rs 9 crore.
- Gabbar Singh — around Rs 5 crore.
- Ghilli, Murari and Sanam Teri Kasam — around Rs 4 crore each.
Based on the advance pace, Avengers Endgame: Encore should clear the Rs 4 crore to Rs 5 crore tier. The question is whether it can beat the roughly Rs 9 crore day posted by Baahubali: The Epic and possibly cross Rs 10 crore.
Why the demand is resurgent
Bollywood Hungama attributes part of the heat to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has refreshed interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers Endgame: Encore also includes new material and an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday, turning the re-release into a narrative bridge to December’s major Marvel title.
The format strategy is equally important. Disney’s Infinity Vision certification sets standards for Premium Large Format auditoriums across screen size, projection quality, brightness and sound. Avengers Endgame: Encore is among the first films to play on Infinity Vision-certified screens before Avengers: Doomsday arrives.
Regular screens will receive new footage and a unique opening, but the new post-credits scene linked to Doomsday is exclusive to IMAX and Infinity Vision-certified screens. That splits the audience incentive: fans who want the full connective tissue must choose higher-priced premium formats, which should lift average ticket price.
What this means for the screen business
For media planners, exhibitors and streaming teams, Avengers Endgame: Encore is a live case in reactivating a library title around a franchise event. The key metric is not just total admissions but format mix. If premium screens over-index, the film can generate meaningful revenue even if footfalls stay below local re-release leaders.
For theatres, this is also a demand test for Avengers: Doomsday. Strong advance bookings for an Encore edition suggest that the audience is willing to pay for the premium Marvel experience when there is exclusive content attached.
