USA Network has ordered a second season of Anna Pigeon, two days before the first-season finale is set to air on Oct. 9. The pickup gives the cable channel a returning scripted original as it operates for the first time under new parent Versant.
Based on Nevada Barr’s book series, the drama premiered Aug. 7 and stars Tracy Spiridakos as a park ranger who solves crimes on national park grounds after a personal loss. Cineflix and SEVEN24 Films produce the series for USA Network in association with Bell Media. Cineflix Rights is the exclusive international distributor outside the US.
Showrunner Morwyn Brebner tied the decision to audience response. “It’s been really thrilling to see audiences fall in love with Anna and come to the park every week,” she said in a statement. The show’s second season promises “continued mystery and adventure,” per the logline.
Why an early pickup matters
A renewal announced before a season finale is a different signal from a post-finale order. USA Network has only two scripted series currently airing, which makes Anna Pigeon half the scripted shelf right now. The legal drama The Rainmaker, based on the John Grisham novel, returns Oct. 16, and the network has already greenlit the medical drama Diplomatic Immunity.
The network is rebuilding a small slate after Comcast spun it into Versant in early 2026, along with MS Now, E!, Syfy and Oxygen. For advertisers, a returning scripted title is a known quantity for sponsorship and scatter conversations. For Cineflix Rights, a second season changes the international pitch from a one-off procedural to a franchise with repeatable sales legs.
The team behind the show
Brebner remains showrunner, with Lea Thompson directing; both are executive producers alongside Brett Burlock, Sonia Hosko, Todd Berger, Julie Di Cresce, Tom Cox, Jordy Randall, Peter Emerson and Gordon Gilbertson. Leslie Cowan produces. The cast also includes Paulina Alexis, Ronnie Rowe, Tricia Helfer, Kim Coates, Crystle Lightning, Cooper Levy, Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz, Ryan Northcott, Nikki Rae Hallow, Jordan Sledz and Melanie Scrofano.
- Anna Pigeon: renewed for Season 2; Season 1 finale Oct. 9.
- The Rainmaker: Season 2 debuts Oct. 16.
- Diplomatic Immunity: greenlit; from Matt Corman and Chris Ord.
Michael Sluchan, SVP of scripted content at Versant, said the series has “connected with audiences in a meaningful way” and brought a new heroine to USA Network. The announcement did not include ratings, so the pickup should be read as an internal strategic commitment rather than a public viewership benchmark.
For media planners and entertainment marketers, the practical read is that USA Network is anchoring its next programming cycle around a known intellectual property and a proven on-air brand, not testing an unproven idea. International buyers now have a second season to discuss with Cineflix Rights, and advertisers get a returning original to build around as Versant pushes its cable portfolio forward.
