AI Studio Behind Mahabharat Takes 200+ Model Stack to Indonesia

The AI production stack behind Star Plus and JioHotstar’s Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayudh is being exported to Indonesia, where developer Galleri5 and Collective Studios’ Historyverse plan to turn local myths and history into film and series properties.

Historyverse is partnering with Galleri5 and Singhasari Special Economic Zone. The slate will cover mythology, fantasy, history and animation. Indonesian creatives and cultural specialists will work with Historyverse’s IP development team, using tools Galleri5 built in India.

What the pact covers

The first project under discussion is Echoes of Nusantara, a working title for an original mythology-adventure. Historyverse will lead creative development, production and IP packaging, and will work with local talent to get projects ready for possible financing, production and distribution outside Indonesia.

  • First project: Echoes of Nusantara, a mythology-adventure with local talent.
  • Format range: mythology, fantasy, history and animation.
  • Scope: development through financing and distribution outside Indonesia.

The AI layer

Galleri5’s main product, G5 AI Studio, brings more than 200 AI models together with tools for storyboarding, character and world design, animation, VFX and film-quality video. The platform has been used for more than 10,000 ads and videos.

The company built and ran the AI filmmaking technology behind Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayudh, launched by JioStar and Collective Media Network. It is now developing workflows for Historyverse’s theatrical slate, including Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal and Krishna.

Why it matters

This is less a one-off production deal and more an export of a production pipeline. The value sits in combining locally rooted IP with scalable AI tools, a model that media planners and entertainment marketers should track because it changes how international content gets financed, packaged and sold.

“The next global entertainment franchises will not all come from Hollywood,” said Vijay Subramaniam, founder and group CEO of Collective Artists Network. “Every market has stories that deserve to travel further.”

Indonesian officials frame the partnership as an industrial move, not a licensing moment. Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia’s coordinating minister for economic affairs, said the country does not intend to sit on the sidelines of AI development or simply act as a consumer of the technology.

The cultural bridge is already old: Ramayana and Mahabharata have been part of Indonesian temple culture and wayang for over a millennium, India’s ambassador noted.

What to watch

For streaming and studio teams, the pact offers a test case for AI-assisted local-language IP. The first data points will be whether Echoes of Nusantara secures financing, whether distribution travels beyond Indonesia, and how the local creative roles are structured.

Galleri5 also gets a live production lab. Every Indonesian project adds workflows that can be fed back into Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal and Krishna, sharpening the studio’s theatrical slate.
