A+E Global Media has hired international TV distribution veteran Chris Stewart as VP, Content Sales, giving the company a dedicated sales lead for the UK, Ireland and Germany. Stewart will be based in the UK, Deadline first reported.
The appointment lands a week after Stewart was named among the executives leaving Banijay Rights in the shakeup that followed Banijay Entertainment’s merger with All3Media. At Banijay, he was SVP, UK and Ireland; earlier he was commercial director, scripted, and head of drama at BBC Worldwide.
“Chris brings a rare breadth of experience across sales, acquisitions, programming and content financing,” said Patrick Vien, Group Managing Director, International at A+E.
Why the hire matters
For buyers and platforms, this is less about one name and more about A+E putting a dedicated senior seller in front of three important European markets. Stewart knows the UK and Ireland buyer base from Banijay and scripted distribution from BBC Worldwide, so his move shortens the learning curve.
There is a familiar post-merger pattern here. When two large content groups combine, senior distribution executives often become available as teams consolidate. A+E moved within a week, giving Stewart a clear remit before MIPCOM Cannes, the market where much of Europe’s rights business is teed up for the next cycle.
For distributors, this is a classic post-merger window. Experienced sales leads are freed up, and the companies that move first often secure the most useful relationships before the next rights cycle begins.
- New remit: content sales across the UK, Ireland and Germany.
- Previous role: SVP, UK and Ireland at Banijay Rights.
- Earlier stops: commercial director, scripted at Banijay Rights and head of drama at BBC Worldwide.
What to watch next
A+E is heading to MIPCOM Cannes this month with commissions such as History’s Strange Fortunes with Kevin Bacon, Extraordinary Origins with Ted Danson and Buried in Barstow 2: Blood for Blood. Stewart gives those titles a focused seller in markets where A+E wants broader reach.
These commissions are a useful first test. A seller with scripted and acquisitions experience can package titles for free-to-air, pay-TV and streaming buyers rather than waiting for one-off deals, which is exactly the kind of flexibility A+E is signalling with this hire.
For media planners and streaming buyers, the practical signal is that A+E’s catalogue is likely to be pitched more consistently in Europe. A seller with financing experience can structure volume and pre-sale conversations, not just individual title sales.
For executives tracking the post-merger talent market, the move is also a signal that Banijay-All3Media consolidation is freeing experienced sell-side talent. Rival distributors building European sales teams should expect more of these moves to surface quickly.
