JustWatch, the guide that tells viewers where to stream, is now a place to watch. The Berlin-based company launched JustWatch TV on Tuesday, opening a hybrid ad-supported and transactional service inside its existing apps and website across 11 markets.
It starts with 30 content suppliers from the U.S. and other countries. The catalogue mixes free, ad-supported titles with transactional rentals or purchases, and a premium ad-free tier is priced at $3.99 a month.
From discovery layer to distributor
The shift matters because JustWatch’s core asset is intent: 50 million users already come to the platform to search where a title is available. By placing playback inside the same app, JustWatch converts those searches into consumption instead of sending users elsewhere.
Initial partners include Cineverse (U.S.), Leonine Studios (Germany), SND (France) and Altitude (UK & Ireland), alongside previously announced suppliers Paramount, New Regency, Fremantle, Bleecker Street and Vortex Media. Launch markets cover the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.
What the economics signal
At $3.99, the ad-free option is deliberately low: it is an upsell, not a Netflix-level pitch. The deeper strategy is advertising and transactional revenue layered onto an audience JustWatch already owns, with no new customer acquisition cost for the platform itself.
For media planners and entertainment marketers, the launch adds another ad-supported video inventory pool across 11 English and Western European markets. It also gives independent and library titles a distribution window next to the major SVODs JustWatch already indexes.
- 30 initial content suppliers across U.S. and international catalogues
- 11 launch markets through the existing JustWatch app and site
- 50 million existing users who already signal viewing intent
- $3.99 per month for the premium ad-free tier
What the founder is signalling
‘The launch of JustWatch TV marks the most important new development in our company’s twelve-year history,’ founder and CEO David Croyé said.
JustWatch was founded in 2014 and now has more than 200 employees across Berlin and offices in L.A., London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Munich, Dubai, and Sydney.
What to watch next
The key question is whether major streaming services will tolerate being indexed by a platform that now competes with them for viewing time. JustWatch has long positioned itself as neutral infrastructure; becoming a programmer tests that neutrality.
For now, the practical takeaway is distribution design: JustWatch is using its existing high-intent traffic to launch a lower-cost, ad-supported tier rather than spending heavily to build a separate destination. That is the same playbook retail media networks use, applied to streaming discovery.
