Netflix’s six-episode comedy Marbles has moved into principal photography, and the first on-set images show a black cab that has hit the back of a red Scania lorry in Hoxton, East London. Robert Webb is in the centre of the action, while Kevin Eldon has joined the cast.
Created and written by Robert Popper, the series follows Sam and Samantha, a couple raising young children while managing ageing parents. Netflix has set a 2027 release window, and the latest night shoots suggest production is well underway.
Status of the shoot
The photos, credited to Click News and Media, capture the production at Halcomb Street outside The Stag’s Head pub. A black cab has hit the back of a red Scania lorry; the taxi’s rear passenger window is broken and glass is on the road. Webb is seen approaching in a navy chore jacket, red t-shirt and jeans. Eldon appears in a creased pink linen jacket and checked shirt, carrying a holdall.
These are early set photos, not finished footage. They tell distribution and marketing teams that Netflix is now producing another UK comedy outside of studio confines.
Who’s in it
The confirmed cast gives Marbles a familiar British comedy profile:
- Robert Webb – Peep Show, That Mitchell and Webb Look
- Kevin Eldon – Brass Eye, Big Train, It’s Kevin
- Timothy Spall – The Sixth Commandment, Mr. Turner
- Alexandra Roach – Utopia, No Offence
- Denise Welch – Coronation Street, Waterloo Road
- Loo Brealey – Such Brave Girls, Sherlock
Kevin Eldon’s role has not been detailed.
Why this matters for buyers
Popper is best known for Friday Night Dinner, a Channel 4 sitcom that found a long streaming afterlife. Marbles is produced by Big Talk Studios with Popper Pictures, with Kenton Allen, Caroline Leddy and Popper as executive producers.
For media planners, this is a 2027 title built for adult co-viewing: a multi-generational family premise, a recognisable cast and the kind of premium UK comedy that can live in a library beyond first-run. The pitch sits against the “sandwich generation” theme, which is broad enough for parents and older audiences alike.
Netflix hasn’t set a precise date. Because comedies typically have a faster post-production path than big-budget dramas, the window is likely to firm up around a trailer.
What to do with the early signal
Use the first look to flag Marbles for family and adult comedy briefs, but don’t lock media against an unconfirmed date. The cast is the early audience signal: Popper’s humour plus Webb, Spall and the rest points at viewers who grew up on British sitcoms and now watch with their own households.
This is one of several British Netflix projects lined up for 2027; the next milestone is a teaser or first-look trailer that locks the release month.
