Sony Pictures TV Hires Lauren Glaubach for Digital EVP Role

Sony Pictures Television is making a structural bet that its next audience and revenue layer will come from YouTube and social platforms, not only traditional television windows. The move is the latest sign that studio libraries are being repositioned for platform-native distribution.

The studio has hired Lauren Glaubach as executive vice president of distribution, digital and social platforms, a newly created role that gives one leader a mandate to find digital opportunities for Sony’s film and TV catalogue.

What the role covers

Glaubach will report to Jason Spivak and Paul Littmann, presidents of distribution and networks. Her task is to spearhead a global growth and monetization strategy for digital and social platforms, with YouTube named as a priority channel.

She joins from Pinterest, where she was vice president and head of global content partnerships, overseeing content producer relationships and creator community growth. Her earlier roles include the Walt Disney Company and BloomSpot; she is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Princeton.

A library that is already moving digital

Sony is not starting from zero. Its digital slate already includes a YouTube edition of Jeopardy! and Reading Rainbow on YouTube, as well as a partnership with Professor Brian Cox to develop premium original content for global digital audiences.

Glaubach described the opportunity in audience terms: the goal is to “meet audiences where they are” and deepen their connection to Sony’s franchises while opening new possibilities for its brands.

Why media planners should watch

For the ScreenStat audience, the appointment is a useful leading indicator. Studios once treated YouTube and social video largely as promotion for linear or theatrical releases. This role frames them as a distribution and revenue line with an executive owner.

  • Sony already operates YouTube-native versions of known titles rather than clips-only channels.
  • A monetization-focused EVP suggests more ad-supported and brand-funded digital inventory will follow.
  • Glaubach’s Pinterest background brings direct experience managing content creators and platform partnerships.

The key question for buyers and platform teams is pacing: how quickly Sony converts its library into regular digital formats that can carry advertising or sponsorship. The appointment alone does not answer that, but it does put a dedicated senior leader against the problem.

Spivak and Littmann pointed to Glaubach’s “proven track record of building and growing digital businesses” as the reason for the hire.

What to expect next

Because the role reports into distribution and networks rather than marketing, digital sits beside Sony’s traditional window strategy. That reporting line matters: it means YouTube and social performance will likely be measured on audience development and revenue contribution, not brand lift alone.

For entertainment marketers, one practical read is to treat platform-native franchises such as the Jeopardy! YouTube edition as test cases for how legacy IP can be re-cut, re-hosted and monetized without cannibalizing core channels.
