Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is still counting its first Sunday, but the provisional Day 4 update has already moved the sequel into a clear opening-weekend lead among recent Tamil releases. The film’s cumulative India net stands at Rs 165.65 crore, with India gross at Rs 194.49 crore, according to live tracker data cited by The Times of India.
Day 4 is still a moving target
Sunday’s reported number so far is Rs 21.60 crore from 7,273 shows. That is provisional; the final Sunday figure may land higher once remaining shows are counted. The weekend curve shows the expected drop after the opening day, followed by a Saturday lift:
- Day 1: Rs 59.70 crore
- Day 2: Rs 37.10 crore
- Day 3: Rs 47.25 crore
- Day 4 live: Rs 21.60 crore
For exhibitors and distributors, the important test is whether the Sunday final pushes the gross past the Rs 200 crore mark. At Rs 194.49 crore, it is within touching distance.
The language mix tells the business story
The Tamil version is doing most of the heavy lifting. On Sunday so far, it contributed Rs 16.02 crore from 3,838 shows. Telugu added Rs 3.51 crore from 1,078 shows, and Hindi contributed Rs 2.07 crore across 2,357 shows. The Hindi count is a reminder that more shows do not automatically mean more revenue: it ran the second-highest number of shows among the three versions but delivered the smallest Day 4 figure of the group.
Why the comparison matters
In four days, Jailer 2 has moved ahead of the Day 4 India net totals cited for Vijay’s Jana Nayagan (Rs 124.75 crore) and Suriya’s Karuppu (Rs 82.30 crore net, Rs 95.30 crore gross). For media planners and marketers, that gap is not just fan chatter. Opening-weekend ranking influences screen allocation, ad inventory around a title, and where platform and brand money chases the next hit.
What to watch next
Because these are provisional tracker estimates, the sensible approach is to wait for the corrected Sunday total and then watch Monday’s hold. A strong opening establishes demand; the first weekday shows whether the audience is expanding beyond the star’s core fan base. The sequel brings back Rajinikanth with director Nelson Dilipkumar and composer Anirudh Ravichander, and features an ensemble including Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Mithun Chakraborty and S. J. Suryah.
