Spirit moves to October 29, 2027, risking a Diwali clash

Spirit has left its March 5, 2027 slot and will now open worldwide on October 29, 2027, in the Diwali window. The move takes the Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed action thriller several months later and places it in a much busier theatrical frame.

A date change with a possible collision

Spirit stars Prabhas as an IPS officer, with Triptii Dimri, Vivek Oberoi and Aishwarya Desai in the ensemble. T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures produce the film, which was first announced on October 23, 2025 with a sound-story teaser titled “One Bad Habit”. Its first-look poster arrived on January 1, 2026.

The March 5, 2027 date had been restated by Vanga as recently as August 2026. The film now lands in the window where Ramayana Part 2, the Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra epic starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, could also arrive. The report notes that the extent of any clash depends on the final release schedule of Ramayana Part 2.

Why the Diwali shift matters

A Diwali date changes the trade conversation in three ways:

  • Bigger theatrical window. The film moves into a major holiday frame, which typically carries more audience attention than an early-March date.
  • Competitive scheduling risk. If Ramayana Part 2 holds a nearby date, two large event films will split screens, marketing voice and audience attention.
  • Longer campaign runway. The delay gives marketing and distribution teams more time, but it also resets media plans built around March 2027.

What our audience should watch

For media planners and entertainment marketers, the actionable signal is not the date alone but the risk of two event films sharing a window. The first task is to track Ramayana Part 2’s final date before locking Diwali 2027 inventory. The second is to treat the old March 5, 2027 date as void in forecasts, campaign calendars and client decks.

Spirit remains one of the most anticipated Indian theatrical projects of this cycle, but its commercial ceiling now depends on how the Diwali slate settles.
