Jailer 2 crosses Rs 317.15 crore worldwide in 3 days

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 needed a Saturday bounce after a Friday drop, and it got one. On Day 3, the Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel added Rs 47.80 crore in India nett collections, a 28.8% jump from Friday’s Rs 37.10 crore, according to trade website Sacnilk. That lifted the three-day worldwide gross to Rs 317.15 crore.

The weekend swing

After opening at Rs 59.70 crore on October 15, the film fell to Rs 37.10 crore on Friday, a normal second-day correction for a star-led action title. Saturday’s recovery pushed cumulative India nett to Rs 144.60 crore and domestic gross to Rs 169.65 crore. Overseas contributed Rs 47.50 crore on Saturday alone, taking the overseas cume to Rs 147.50 crore.

What the occupancy shows

Overall occupancy across languages improved from 48.2% on Day 2 to 53.9% on Day 3. Jailer 2 played 14,604 shows on Saturday and recorded 3,121,280 footfalls; cumulative footfalls reached 9,361,338. That is the number media planners should watch: occupancy, not just nett, tells you whether screens are being added profitably or simply filled by supply.

  • Tamil: Rs 34.60 crore from 7,802 shows at 69.1% occupancy.
  • Telugu: Rs 8.50 crore from 2,100 shows at 58.4% occupancy.
  • Hindi: Rs 4.25 crore from 4,554 shows at 26% occupancy.
  • Kannada: Rs 45 lakh from 148 shows at 49% occupancy.

Where the demand is

Tamil Nadu led Saturday’s state-wise gross with Rs 23 crore, followed by Kerala at Rs 9 crore and the combined Andhra Pradesh-Telangana market at Rs 9.75 crore. Karnataka added Rs 8.50 crore; the rest of India accounted for Rs 5.75 crore, for a Day 3 state total of Rs 56 crore gross.

The Tamil 2D version’s time-of-day data is even sharper: night shows hit 90.08% occupancy, against 54.08% in the morning. Telugu 2D night shows reached 74.73%. For exhibitors, that argues for protecting evening and late shows in the Southern states and not over-indexing on morning programming.

Why the Hindi number matters

The Hindi version ran 4,554 shows but filled only 26% of seats. For a pan-India release, that is a weak signal. It suggests Jailer 2 is behaving like a South-led theatrical event rather than a true four-quadrant national hit, at least through Saturday. That has direct implications for how distributors allocate marketing and show count in week two.

What to watch on Sunday and beyond

Saturday’s rebound stabilises the opening weekend, but the real test is Sunday’s hold and the Monday drop. If Sunday lands above Friday rather than below it, Jailer 2 can head into weekdays with a stronger case for premium screens. If the Hindi version does not improve, the film’s national ceiling stays capped even as Southern markets overperform. Media planners looking at campaign tie-ins should therefore model South India as the core audience and treat Hindi as secondary.
