Drishyam 3 tops Ajay Devgn's record at Rs 286.5 cr

Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3: The Conclusion is now the actor’s highest-grossing release in India, crossing ₹286.50 crore in net collections after nine days in theatres, according to Sacnilk data cited by News18.

The crime thriller added ₹26.50 crore on its second Saturday, taking its India net total to ₹286.50 crore. That pushes it past Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Devgn’s previous benchmark, and puts the ₹300 crore mark within reach by the end of its second weekend.

The day-wise box office

  • Opening day: ₹66.75 crore, the third-biggest opener for a Hindi film ever
  • Opening weekend: ₹53.50 crore on Saturday and ₹61 crore on Sunday
  • Monday: ₹21 crore, followed by steady midweek holds
  • First week: ₹245.50 crore
  • Day 9, second Saturday: ₹26.50 crore; total ₹286.50 crore

Why the second Saturday matters

Big opening weekends are only half the story. The film opened with ₹66.75 crore and then dropped to ₹21 crore on Monday, a normal front-loaded pattern. The second-Saturday number shows that audiences are still returning before Dussehra, which is still a week away. That hold is what separates a short theatrical spike from a long run.

For media planners, entertainment marketers and distributors, the retention number matters more than the opening-day splash. A second Saturday at ₹26.50 crore, roughly half the opening Saturday, signals that the title is holding casual and repeat audiences rather than exhausting its demand in the first weekend.

A finale, but not a remake

The Hindi version is not a direct remake of the upcoming Malayalam Drishyam 3 starring Mohanlal. Both films are expected to follow different storylines, with the Hindi version telling an original story centred on Vijay Salgaonkar. For film marketers, that puts two separate franchise products under one title, each with its own regional pull.

What to watch next

News18 Showsha’s 3-star review called the film gripping and well-performed but said it “sticks closely to the Drishyam formula, making it familiar.” The short-term milestone is ₹300 crore. The more meaningful number for the trade is whether the Dussehra hold pushes the final total well past that mark.
