Marvel Television has put a date on its next live-action swing. Zodiac, a spy thriller for Disney+, will arrive in 2028. The first logo was unveiled at New York Comic-Con, and Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum said the shoot begins in London in the spring, with casting starting “in the next couple of weeks.”
So far, that is the dataset: a title, a genre, a window and a production city. No cast, episode count or plot details were announced. For the screen business, however, the reveal is less about what is known and more about what it says regarding Marvel’s TV pipeline.
The slate arithmetic
Zodiac is the first new live-action Marvel show announced since Ironheart. That gap matters because the TV side has been closing chapters even as the theatrical side delivered record-breaking box office with Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
- Wonder Man premiered in January, earned a Season 2 renewal and an Emmy nomination for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, then was canceled months later.
- Daredevil: Born Again will end with next year’s Season 3, reuniting Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones as the Netflix Defenders heroes.
- VisionQuest premieres Oct. 14 and closes the trilogy that began with WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
Why a 2028 slot matters
For streaming buyers and media planners, a 2028 release is not an immediate ratings play. It is a restocking signal. Disney+ is telling subscribers, advertisers and talent that its Marvel TV slate is being rebuilt for the longer term, not wound down after high-profile exits.
Marvel’s recent TV exits show that renewal and acclaim do not guarantee longevity. Wonder Man had both, and it was pulled; Daredevil: Born Again is ending on its own timeline. A new title with a 2028 slot, then, is a commitment Disney+ can market without promising an extended run.
The long horizon also changes how the trade should cover it. Until there is a cast and a trailer, the useful numbers are production milestones: a London start, a casting window, a premiere date. Those are commitments that make the series a real pipeline asset rather than a logo on a panel screen.
The next data point
Casting is the clearest signal to watch. The names attached, and the budget tier they imply, will shape whether Zodiac is marketed as an event franchise or a mid-slate original. For now, the 2028 window is the headline number.
The panel also gave Disney+ a chance to reset the narrative after a messy TV stretch. By announcing a new title rather than only defending cancellations, Marvel is steering attention toward future inventory.
