Apple TV converted awards momentum into an Emmy platform lead at the 2026 awards. The streamer finished with 28 total wins, driven by Widow’s Bay, which set a single-year record for a comedy with 14 trophies.
A record-setting comedy sweep
By the time Monday’s Primetime Emmys began, Widow’s Bay had already collected eight wins from the Creative Arts ceremonies, including guest comedy actress for Betty Gilpin, comedy casting and music supervision. It then went six-for-six during the Primetime telecast, taking outstanding comedy series, lead comedy actor for Matthew Rhys, supporting comedy actor for Stephen Root, supporting comedy actress for Kate O’Flynn, comedy writing and comedy directing.
The 14-win total makes it the most-awarded comedy in a single Emmys year. That anchor title was the main reason Apple TV moved ahead of its streaming rivals.
The platform leaderboard shifts
HBO Max placed second with 21 Emmys. Its strongest titles were limited series DTF St. Louis and drama series The Pitt, each with seven wins. Netflix came third with 16, spread across Beef, Love on the Spectrum, Bridgerton and The Beast in Me.
This is Apple’s first time leading the overall Emmy studio tally. Last year, The Studio won 13 Emmys for Apple, a record at the time, but the platform still finished behind HBO Max and Netflix. The 2026 result marks only the second time in 20 years that a company outside that HBO Max/Netflix pair has topped the Emmys; FX did it in 2024.
Beyond Widow’s Bay, Apple’s total was spread across Pluribus with six wins, Margo’s Got Money Troubles with three, Palm Royale with three, Slow Horses with one and Mr. Scorsese with one.
Top programs by Emmy count
- 14 — Widow’s Bay, Apple TV
- 7 — DTF St. Louis, The Pitt, The Traitors, Bad Bunny Super Bowl halftime show
- 6 — Pluribus, tied with The Late Show With Stephen Colbert
- 5 — Spider-Noir, all at Creative Arts
- 4 — The Muppet Show, all at Creative Arts
- 3 — Beef, all at Creative Arts
For media planners and streaming strategists, the shift is a reminder that awards perception can be concentrated rather than volume-driven. One breakout franchise can reset how buyers and audiences read a platform’s original slate.
