Drishyam 3 opens at ₹95 crore worldwide on day one

Drishyam 3, released in theatres as Drishyam: The Conclusion, delivered a ₹95-crore global opening on day one, narrowly missing the ₹100-crore opening-day club. India drove the result: the film collected ₹66.75 crore net, or ₹80.10 crore gross, on its first day. Overseas contributed just over $1.5 million, according to trade sources cited by Hindustan Times.

The numbers give entertainment marketers a clean read on franchise demand. Advance bookings opened on September 27, five days before the October 2 release, and crossed ₹50 crore by opening day. That was the fourth-highest opening-day advance for a Hindi film, and it converted into the biggest start of Ajay Devgn’s career.

Where the opening ranks

Only five Hindi films have crossed ₹100 crore on opening day. Drishyam 3 did not join that set, but it still landed the sixth-biggest opening in Bollywood history and the 21st-biggest opening among all Indian films.

  • ₹95 crore worldwide opening-day gross.
  • ₹66.75 crore India net on day one; ₹80.10 crore gross.
  • Fourth-highest opening-day advance booking for a Hindi film.
  • Biggest-ever opening for Ajay Devgn.

The comparison set matters more than the miss on ₹100 crore. Drishyam 3 out-opened several larger-canvas titles on day one: Rajinikanth’s Jailer (₹91 crore), Ram Charan’s Peddi (₹94 crore), Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 (₹93 crore) and Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 (₹88 crore). Among Hindi films, its opening sits behind a select group that includes Dhurandhar 2 at ₹205 crore, Jawan at ₹129 crore, Adipurush at ₹127 crore and Animal at ₹116 crore.

The domestic-overseas split

The day-one split shows where the franchise’s commercial centre of gravity sits. India’s ₹80.10 crore gross is roughly 84% of the ₹95 crore global opening, while overseas delivered a modest but credible start. For media planners, that asymmetry is useful: the sequel is being sold on local audience equity and a built-in fan base, not on a global event pitch.

That also changes release strategy. A tight five-day advance window encouraged early commitment from an audience already familiar with the franchise. For upcoming sequels, the lesson is to open advance bookings close enough to maintain urgency, but long enough to convert intent into opening-day occupancy.

What to watch next

The opening answered the demand question; the next test is hold. A ₹95-crore start gives the film a strong base, but the gap between domestic and overseas means global growth for the next instalment will depend on whether the franchise can be marketed more aggressively outside India.

The cast and crew signal continuity: Abhishek Pathak writes and directs, with Ajay Devgn returning as Vijay Salgaonkar alongside Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav and Kamlesh Sawant. New names include Jaideep Ahlawat, Prakash Raj and Saurabh Shukla.
