What the numbers say

The hits and the misses

That entry sits oddly inside a Nani filmography, but it is the table’s best multiple and biggest hit as listed. The strongest Nani-titled Telugu film in the recent data is Saripodhaa Sanivaaram (2024), which turned Rs 40 crore into Rs 101.51 crore — a 2.54 multiple. The weakest return is The Paradise (2026): Rs 90 crore budget, Rs 98.5 crore gross, a 1.09 multiple and a “Flop” verdict.
The trend
The recent five scored films average a 1.63 multiple, against 3.98 for the five before. The recent set runs from Ante Sundaraniki at 1.5, through Dasara at 1.86, Hi Nanna at 1.16 and Saripodhaa Sanivaaram at 2.54, to The Paradise at 1.09. The previous five are not fully itemised in the table above, but their 3.98 average is inflated by the 6.65 from The Lion King. Remove that entry and the picture changes from a star who opens to a business where margins are tightening.
What it means for the next film and for the industry
For Nani’s next film, the target should be cost discipline. The Paradise is the warning: a Rs 90 crore budget with a Rs 98.5 crore gross leaves a 1.09 multiple — recovery with little room for profit. Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is the model: Rs 40 crore in, Rs 101.51 crore out, 2.54 times return. Dasara sits in between at 1.86 on a Rs 65 crore budget and Rs 121 crore gross.
For the industry, the scorecard argues for the mid-budget Telugu film as a slate strategy. A star who can carry Rs 40-65 crore productions to a 1.5-2.5 times return is more useful than an expensive swing that barely recovers. The caveat is consistency: a 2.3 overall average and 1.63 recent average say the floor is real but the upside is narrowing.
