Jailer 2: Rs 518.75 cr nett, Week 3 slows 60%

Week 3 is where the slowdown shows

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 collected Rs 39 crore in its third week, with Rs 1.50 crore coming on the third Thursday, according to trade estimates. That is a 60% drop from Week 2 and takes the film’s theatrical run to Rs 518.75 crore nett at the Indian box office in 22 days. The rounded headline figure is Rs 519 crore.

The weekly fall is a screen story more than a demand story. Two high-profile releases are absorbing the available inventory, and the impact is visible in the holdover numbers before the final lifetime total is set.

Two new openers reshape the run

Ramayana opened on Thursday and pushed Jailer 2 out of Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, Karnataka and the North India belt, according to the report. Suriya’s Scene hits cinemas today, and trade trackers expect the film to lose additional shows.

The next few days will determine how far the total can travel. Tamil Nadu is the exception: it remains the only major market where the film is likely to retain screens for another week.

The regional split

Jailer 2 has built its Rs 518.75 crore nett total on a heavily regional base. The territory-level numbers show why the next-week hold matters.

  • Tamil Nadu: Rs 202.25 crore, the home market that could run another week.
  • Telugu states: about Rs 90 crore; it ends there as the second-biggest Kollywood grosser after 2.0.
  • Karnataka: over Rs 92.25 crore.
  • Kerala: Rs 78.25 crore.

The 2.0 benchmark

Finishing as the second-biggest Kollywood grosser in the Telugu states, behind only 2.0, is a useful benchmark. It suggests the sequel converted Rajinikanth’s established equity into hard ticket sales outside Tamil Nadu, even as the screen count tightened.

What this means for media and distribution teams

The split is the real insight for planners. A Tamil tentpole can now generate a substantial secondary business in Telugu and Kannada markets, but its hold is still anchored in the home state. When competing tentpoles arrive back-to-back, a film can be finished in three territories while still having a week of runway in its strongest one.

A 60% Week 3 drop is not a collapse. The film has already crossed the Rs 500 crore nett mark. The key variable is whether the Tamil Nadu hold stretches the final number or the remaining run becomes a long tail.
