Jailer 2 tops Rs 823.45 cr worldwide as Telugu leads non-Tamil

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has crossed Rs 823.45 cr in global gross after 22 days, but for distribution and marketing teams the sharper story is where the money came from — and how fast the curve is now cooling.

The 22-day scorecard

Through 22 days, the Nelson Dilipkumar sequel has banked Rs 467.65 cr net in India and Rs 546.95 cr in domestic gross. Overseas markets have added Rs 276.50 cr, taking the worldwide gross to Rs 823.45 cr. The film has recorded 2,47,034 shows across India in its first 22 days.

The opening window did the heavy lifting. The film collected Rs 334.35 cr net in its first eight days. Between days 9 and 15, it added Rs 95.55 cr, a 71.4% drop. The third week added Rs 37.75 cr, another 60.5% decline. This is a front-loaded star vehicle, not a story of long theatrical legs.

The domestic-versus-overseas split also matters: domestic gross accounts for 66.4% of worldwide earnings, while overseas contributes 33.6%. For a Tamil star vehicle, that is a strong global floor that can absorb a domestic slowdown.

Telugu is the non-Tamil engine

The language split shows why marketing beyond Tamil Nadu matters for a large Tamil sequel:

  • Tamil: Rs 323.73 cr net, 69.2% of India net
  • Telugu: Rs 85.65 cr, 18.3%
  • Hindi: Rs 50.15 cr, 10.7%
  • Kannada: Rs 8.12 cr, 1.7%

Telugu is the standout non-Tamil version. At Rs 85.65 cr net, it out-earns the Hindi version by Rs 35.50 cr. The update notes that promotions beyond Tamil Nadu, particularly in the Telugu belt, appear to have widened the film’s reach — though collection figures alone cannot establish the direct impact of those campaigns.

In planning terms, roughly three of every ten rupees of India net came from language versions outside Tamil. That is a meaningful base for a sequel that had to cross Rs 800 cr globally, and it can be tracked release over release to see whether regional marketing is adding share.

What the curve tells planners

For media planners and entertainment marketers, the trajectory is a reminder to treat a star-led release as a first-weekend business. The opening window created most of the value; the later weeks are about extracting whatever remains before screens move to the next release.

The language data is also a targeting input. If Telugu audiences over-index relative to Hindi, the next instalment can shift marketing weight to the Telugu states earlier, with Telugu-specific premieres, influencer pushes and localised creative, rather than spreading spend evenly by language.

The overseas share, 33.6% of worldwide gross, is the final buffer. When domestic legs fade, a strong diaspora market can keep the worldwide total climbing toward its next milestone.
