Back to horror, with a genre specialist
R Madhavan is returning to the horror space with an untitled feature that pairs him with director Vishal Furia. The project comes from producer Rohit Ranjan under Frostlit Production Limited. No title, supporting cast or release timeline has been shared yet.
Madhavan’s horror file starts with 13B, the psychological horror that grew a cult audience, and includes Shaitaan. Furia has built his own horror path through Lapachhapi, the Chhorii franchise and Maa, where Madhavan appeared in a cameo. This new project is their first full feature as actor and director.
The pitch from the director
Furia made his casting intent plain. He called Madhavan his ‘first and only choice’ and described the actor as the ‘true OG horror star’ of 13B.
He also pointed to Madhavan’s broader experience as writer, director and producer, saying the ambition is to create something Indian horror audiences have not seen before.
Why the pairing matters
For a streamer or exhibitor, this is a project with two known horror signals: an actor associated with a cult title and a director with a recent horror streak. That combination lowers the pitch risk, especially when the cost of the film and the release route are still open.
Madhavan also brings multi-language reach, with credits across Hindi and Tamil cinema, which can help a horror title travel. Furia’s own work in Marathi and Hindi gives the team more than one audience base.
What the market should watch
The announcement leaves several business questions open. The most important is distribution: whether the film is positioned for cinemas, a streaming service, or both. The answer will shape the scale of the production and the kind of horror it can risk.
- Will the film be theatrical, direct-to-streaming, or a hybrid release?
- Will it lean into 13B‘s psychological dread or Shaitaan‘s more mainstream horror?
- Which language market is primary? Madhavan and Furia both work across Indian languages.
For media planners and entertainment marketers, the pairing is a reminder that horror assets are often built on talent track records, not star power alone. The title reveal and distribution plan will be the next signal.
