Vettuvam sets five-language Pongal 2027 release

Pa. Ranjith’s next feature, Vettuvam, now has a release window: the film will open worldwide over Pongal 2027. The announcement came with a new poster and confirms what the team has been signalling since its first universe video: this is being built as a five-language, pan-Indian theatrical play.

What the release plan tells us

The film will arrive in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. In an earlier introduction, the makers used market-specific voices to explain its world: Pankaj Tripathi in Hindi, Pa. Ranjith in Tamil, Rana Daggubati in Telugu, Kiccha Sudeep in Kannada and Soubin Shahir in Malayalam.

That casting of voices is a distribution message as much as a creative one. Before the trailer even dropped, the announcement told exhibitors and audiences that Vettuvam is not being treated as a Tamil film that will later be dubbed; it is being presented as a genuinely multi-market title.

The story the film is carrying

The narrative is built around land dominance and large-scale turf wars, with conflicts from the past shaping the present and threatening the future. The makers have put traditional martial arts and the ancient sport of Mallakhamba into the action design, and the principal cast underwent training for the physically demanding sequences.

Vettuvam stars Arya, with Sobhita Dhulipala and Kalaiyarasan, among others. G. V. Prakash Kumar is scoring the film.

Why this matters now

Ranjith is returning to the big screen after Kabali, Kaala, Sarpatta Parambarai and Thangalaan. That CV carries a track record of films that combine social and cultural themes with scale. With Vettuvam, the central stake is land ownership, which gives the action a clear commercial spine across markets.

For media planners and entertainment marketers, the announcement is useful in three ways:

  • Festive window locked early: the team has claimed a Pongal 2027 slot, allowing a long, controlled campaign.
  • Language strategy is visible from the first reveal: regional voices signalled the five-language reach before the poster.
  • Differentiation is built into the action: Mallakhamba and traditional martial arts offer an angle that can travel beyond the usual fight choreography.

What to watch

With the Pongal 2027 window now named, the next marker is how the marketing cadence holds across five language markets. The poster is the immediate asset, but the real test is whether the team can convert Ranjith’s themes and the physical action into a festive-window opening that justifies the pan-Indian scale.
