Five weeks in, Kannada film Premada Oorali is being measured against the biggest opening-day benchmark in Kannada cinema: KGF: Chapter 2. The romantic drama’s worldwide gross has reached Rs 128.39 crore, while its India net total stands at Rs 106.72 crore, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India. That leaves the film Rs 9.28 crore below the reported Day 1 India net of Yash’s blockbuster.
The day-35 number
On Thursday, October 29, Premada Oorali collected Rs 85 lakh net in India across 841 shows. That works out to an average of Rs 10,107 per screening. India gross is now Rs 124.74 crore; overseas added Rs 5 lakh on Day 35, taking cumulative international gross to Rs 3.65 crore.
The 85-lakh Thursday was a 22.7% drop from Wednesday’s Rs 1.10 crore. That is not alarming by fifth-week standards: mid-week declines accelerate once a film has exhausted its core audience and is running largely on evening and night shows.
Why the KGF comparison matters
The reference point is aggressive. KGF: Chapter 2 reportedly opened at Rs 116 crore India net, split across Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. After 25 days, it had accumulated Rs 813.85 crore India net.
For Premada Oorali, being in the same conversation on its thirty-fifth day is a useful framing device. It lets a mid-budget Kannada romance borrow scale from a pan-India blockbuster, even if the two films are not comparable in genre, budget or market depth. The gap, Rs 9.28 crore, is now the story’s forward narrative.
What the fifth-week hold says
The film began week five with Rs 2.10 crore on Friday, October 23, peaked at Rs 3.75 crore on Sunday, and then stepped down to Rs 85 lakh by Thursday. The fifth-week total is Rs 14.35 crore, after a fourth week of Rs 27 crore.
- Week 5 total: Rs 14.35 crore
- Week 4 total: Rs 27 crore
- Day 35 occupancy: 20.23% overall, evening shows strongest at 23.08%
- Cumulative footfalls: 7,188,961 across India
The occupancy split is the detail media planners should note: morning shows at 11.67% and afternoon at 22.67% lag evening and night. The film is now a post-work viewing option, not a family matinee driver. That affects where incremental marketing spend should go.
What to watch next
The next milestone is clear: can Premada Oorali close the remaining Rs 9.28 crore and cross KGF: Chapter 2‘s Day 1 net? It is a symbolic threshold more than a like-for-like contest, but it gives the trade a simple weekly headline. The sharper indicator is whether the film can hold average revenue per screening as show counts stay around 840.
