Ramayana books 1.33 lakh Day 1 tickets

Ramayana: Part One, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, has opened advance sales with an early number that gives the trade a useful first read. As of 11 PM on Thursday, October 29, the film had sold around 1.33 lakh tickets for opening day across the two biggest national multiplex chains, PVR Inox and Cinepolis.

That total is a partial signal, not a full-market count. Advance booking has not opened completely in non-national chains, single screens, or South Indian markets. With a week still to go before release, the figure is a baseline that should build sharply.

What the early number tells the trade

National chain pre-sales are the most visible real-time proxy for urban audience intent. A 1.33-lakh day-one total at this stage is a healthy start for a large-scale event film. The more useful comparison is not with final numbers, but with the pace other event titles show in the final four or five days before release.

Pinkvilla describes the advance as a “healthy head start.” That framing matters: the number keeps the film in the conversation, but it does not yet define the opening.

The final stretch is the real test

Box office presales follow a familiar rhythm. Sales stay modest when the window opens, then accelerate from the Monday before release to the day before release. The day before release can, at times, change the entire advance outlook. For Ramayana: Part One, the current total should be read as an early benchmark, not a projection.

Media planners and buyers watching this number should track three things:

  • Monday onward: how quickly the national-chain total grows in the final stretch.
  • Single screens and non-national chains: when they open, do they confirm or dilute the multiplex signal?
  • South India: a large share of demand is not yet booked; that region will materially change the all-India picture.

The limitation of a partial-chain total

PVR Inox and Cinepolis dominate the multiplex segment, but they are not the entire Indian theatrical market. A film built on scale and mass appeal, like Ramayana, needs single screens and southern circuits to convert. Until those numbers are visible, any all-India opening estimate is premature.

For now, the story is simple: a solid urban multiplex start with a week of selling left. The number will look very different by next Thursday.
