Godzilla Minus Zero likely slips to Nov 20 in India

PVR INOX Pictures has put the India release of Godzilla Minus Zero on the calendar without putting it on a specific date. A poster shared on October 27 marks the distributor’s first official confirmation that the monster film will open in Indian theatres, and it carries the tag “Filmed for IMAX.” The only date cue is “Only in theatres this November.”

Trade sources cited by Bollywood Hungama suggest that the vagueness is deliberate. Ramayana – Part: I opens on November 5 and holds a two-week exclusivity window on IMAX screens in India. Because Godzilla Minus Zero is also positioned as an IMAX title, the film is likely to land on November 20, once that window ends. A November 13 slot is still being discussed, but the final call has not been made.

For Indian fans, the update ends weeks of uncertainty about whether the film would release in the market at all. PVR INOX Pictures had not previously put out an official India poster; the October 27 post is the clearest signal yet.

Why an IMAX window moves a release date

In India, premium-format inventory is a scarce resource. A local event film with a contracted exclusivity period effectively controls the IMAX schedule, leaving an import like Godzilla Minus Zero with limited showing options. The expectation is that most IMAX theatres will give the film perhaps one show while the remaining shows stay with Ramayana, though a final allocation will be made closer to release.

That matters for fans, but it matters more for exhibition and marketing planning:

  • The worldwide release is expected around November 6, but India is unlikely to follow that date.
  • November 20 is the safer bet, with November 13 still alive as a compromise.
  • The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping is also dated November 20 and is expected to compete for IMAX shows.

The third-week collision

The late-November premium slate gets crowded if both Godzilla Minus Zero and The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping chase the same format. Ramayana would still be in its third week, and a strong hold would leave exhibitors splitting premium screens three ways. That is a programming squeeze, not just a scheduling footnote: it determines whether a film gets the high-margin premium show or a standard-format run.

For media planners and entertainment marketers, the practical takeaway is to treat India’s release date as a range, not a lock. Campaign assets should be ready for both November 13 and November 20, and premium-format spends should stay flexible until PVR INOX Pictures makes the date official.
