Prahaar: Rs 27.93 cr worldwide after 12 days

Rajkummar Rao’s courtroom drama Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story held its weekday floor on day 12, earning Rs 45 lakh in India net on Tuesday, 27 October. The figure matched Monday’s result. The wider story is one of a weekend-led release now settling into a much softer weekday rhythm.

The day-12 picture

According to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India, the film’s domestic net total has reached Rs 21.00 cr. India gross stands at Rs 24.98 cr, while overseas gross is Rs 2.95 cr. That puts the worldwide gross at Rs 27.93 cr after 12 days.

  • Day 12 India net: Rs 45 lakh, unchanged from Monday.
  • Domestic net total: Rs 21.00 cr.
  • India gross / overseas gross: Rs 24.98 cr / Rs 2.95 cr.
  • Worldwide gross: Rs 27.93 cr.
  • Shows and occupancy: 1,176 shows at 16.42% overall.

A weekend-led curve

The release opened on 16 October with Rs 2.35 cr on Friday, rose to Rs 3.15 cr on Saturday and peaked at Rs 3.65 cr on Sunday. The first seven days produced Rs 17.15 cr in domestic net. In the second weekend, Saturday and Sunday recovered to Rs 1.15 cr and Rs 1.20 cr, but Monday and Tuesday then settled at Rs 45 lakh each.

The occupancy pattern shows where demand is concentrated. Night shows led Tuesday at 26.69%, against 4.92% for morning shows. The film averaged Rs 3,827 per show across 1,176 screenings, down from the larger opening-day count of 4,133 shows.

Day 12 also logged 36,647 footfalls, taking cumulative admissions to 967,604. That works out to roughly 31 tickets per show, a low-efficiency weekday result. Demand exists, but it is clustered in prime night slots and weekends.

Why it matters for film and exhibition teams

This is a useful case in screen rationalisation for a mid-size, subject-driven Hindi drama. When per-show average and occupancy are low during weekdays, the efficient move is to protect night and weekend inventory rather than blanket daytime slots. The next weekend, not Tuesday’s flat number, will be the real test of whether the worldwide total can push closer to Rs 30 cr from the current Rs 27.93 cr.

Directed by Avinash Arun, the film follows Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam’s high-profile legal battles, including the prosecution tied to the 1993 Bombay bombings and the case against Ajmal Kasab after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Rajkummar Rao plays Nikam, with Wamiqa Gabbi as Jyoti Nikam and Jaideep Ahlawat as Chaudhary Zulfiqar Ali.
