Roc Nation’s years-long hold on the Super Bowl halftime show is about to put its architect on stage. Jay-Z will perform at the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show on Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
“Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage,” Jay-Z said in a statement. “This run continues to be a dream come true.”
The ratings context
The announcement lands after a halftime that stayed enormous but slipped year over year. Bad Bunny’s 2026 set averaged 128.2 million viewers, above the 124.9 million average for the game itself but below Kendrick Lamar’s 133.5 million in 2025. Before Lamar, Usher held the halftime record with his 2024 performance.
- Bad Bunny 2026: 128.2M average viewers
- Super Bowl overall: 124.9M average viewers
- Kendrick Lamar 2025: 133.5M average viewers
That gap is the business story. The halftime show is not a music set; it is one of the last guaranteed simultaneous audiences in English-language television, and now also a streaming reach vehicle.
Where it will air
Disney is again using the event across its portfolio. The broadcast and streaming lineup includes ESPN, ABC and Disney+, with NFL+ on mobile. Spanish-language coverage runs on ESPN Deportes and Disney+, plus a separate presentation on Univision. Roc Nation will executive produce; Hamish Hamilton directs.
Those splits matter for media planners. A single halftime performance now gets measured across linear network feeds, direct-to-consumer streaming and Spanish-language simulcasts, so the aggregate number is a multi-platform total, not a single-channel rating.
What to watch
The booking is less a surprise than a capstone. Jay-Z spent this year marking “Jay-Z 30” with sold-out Yankee Stadium shows, international dates in Paris and London, and the eight-part docuseries “Jay-Z in 8” with Rick Rubin. His tour closed this past weekend at SoFi Stadium with two nights and guests including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, John Legend and Blue Ivy Carter.
Jay-Z has effectively shaped the halftime show since the NFL struck its production agreement with Roc Nation. Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had “just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day.” That day is now set.
For entertainment marketers, the test is whether a legacy hip-hop headliner can reverse the recent ratings pattern. Bad Bunny’s halftime won an Emmy and seven awards overall, showing that critical reception and viewership do not always move together. The 2027 show gives buyers a fresh benchmark for cross-platform reach around live sports.
