Netflix Rolls Cameras on Four-Episode Spanish Crime Thriller Jotadé

Netflix has started production on Jotadé, a four-episode Spanish crime thriller adapted from Santiago Díaz’s novel of the same name. Netflix Spain announced the start of filming on 26 October 2026 and released first-look images.

Isaac Díaz leads the cast as the title character. Aura Garrido, Jose Coronado and Jaime Lorente take the other main roles, backed by a wider ensemble that includes María de Nati, Alberto Olmo, Álvaro Rico and a special appearance from Javier Gutiérrez.

MOD Producciones is producing, with Fernando Bovaira as producer and Guillem Vidal-Folch as executive producer. Isa Sánchez and Daniel Corpas are writing, and Daniel Calparsoro—whose Netflix credits include Bank Under Siege and Salvador—is directing.

The premise

The title character is, in Netflix’s words, “brash and irreverent”—but also sharp, honest and deeply loyal to his Roma community. An investigation into a brutal crime pulls him toward a dangerous criminal network and a mission that clashes with his inability to keep a low profile.

The character began in Díaz’s Indira Ramos trilogy before spinning off into his own saga. The first Jotadé novel arrived in March 2025, and a second, El amo, followed in March 2026. That gives Netflix ready material if the miniseries earns further orders.

Familiar faces, familiar playbook

Coronado has become a recurring Netflix Spain lead, with recent roles in The Final Problem and The Truthers and an upcoming part in Nine Queens. Lorente, best known as Denver in Money Heist, last fronted a Netflix crime miniseries with Iron Reign. Garrido and Coronado previously shared the screen in The Innocent, Netflix’s first Spanish-language Harlan Coben adaptation.

The production company, MOD Producciones, also produced The Final Problem, which arrived on Netflix in September 2026. The project therefore pulls from a talent pool Netflix Spain has already tested with its audience.

Timing: a late-2027 title

Netflix has not set a release window. With filming just beginning on a four-episode run, the practical estimate is the second half of 2027. The comparison is useful for planners:

  • Production start: October 2026
  • Episode count: four
  • Likely window: second half of 2027
  • Benchmark: The Final Problem began filming in May 2025 and launched in September 2026

For streaming buyers and content schedulers, this is a title to watch, not one to slot into a near-term plan. It joins a packed Spanish slate Netflix is building across 2026 and 2027.
