Jailer 2 tops Rs 666 crore worldwide in 10 days

Ten days in, Jailer 2 has taken its worldwide gross to Rs 666.30 crore, powered by Rs 24.15 crore in India net collections and Rs 10 crore from overseas on Day 10 alone.

Day 10 by the numbers

Sacnilk data cited by The Economic Times shows the four-language release played across 11,591 shows in India on the day. The split shows where demand is holding:

  • Tamil: Rs 16.25 crore from 5,545 shows
  • Telugu: Rs 4.40 crore from 1,835 shows
  • Hindi: Rs 2.90 crore from 4,008 shows
  • Kannada: Rs 60 lakh from 203 shows

Cumulative India gross stands at Rs 436.80 crore against an India net of Rs 373 crore. Overseas gross has climbed to Rs 229.50 crore, putting the sequel at Rs 666.30 crore worldwide after its first ten days.

The theatre visit is the real earned-media story

Rajinikanth stepped into a cinema hall to watch Jailer 2 with the audience, reportedly his first theatre visit for one of his films in four decades. Music composer Anirudh Ravichander accompanied him, and production house Sun Pictures shared a video of the entry.

For entertainment marketers, a star showing up at the point of consumption is a conversion moment no paid campaign can fully replicate. The clip turns a routine second-weekend collection update into platform-native content: candid, shareable and built for Reels and Shorts. It gives theatre chains a timely reason to push walk-ins and can support holds into week three.

Franchise economics are on display

Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 is the sequel to the 2023 hit Jailer. Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik reprise their roles, with S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan joining the ensemble.

The collection split shows a Tamil-led multi-language bet: Tamil contributed Rs 16.25 crore from 5,545 shows, while Hindi added Rs 2.90 crore from 4,008 shows. That suggests the Hindi version is getting screens and spending, but Tamil is still the lead driver.

Why this matters beyond the weekend

For streaming and television buyers, a strong theatrical franchise resets the value of its eventual post-theatrical window. A film holding this scale in India and overseas usually commands stronger licensing terms and becomes an acquisition lever for OTT platforms. The Rs 229.50 crore overseas gross also confirms the diaspora audience remains a dependable second box.

Watch the next week’s holds closely. If the fan-screening moment converts into weekday stability, it tells distributors they can rely on star-led earned media even after paid media tapers.
