Sony Pictures Classics’ Sundance comedy Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass has a US streaming date: November 7, 2026. The Zoey Deutch and Jon Hamm vehicle will land on Netflix exactly 120 days after its July 10 theatrical opening, one more data point in a Sony window that has become almost mechanical.
Directed by David Wain and co-written with Ken Marino, the film premiered at Sundance on January 25, 2026. Sony Pictures Classics picked up worldwide rights a month later and called it, via TheWrap, ‘the most hilarious comedy we have seen in ages’.
Why the date is so predictable
The film opened in the US on July 10, 2026 on 1,000 screens and finished with $1.44 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo. Critical response was warmer: 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.
This is the film’s SVOD debut, the first time viewers can watch it inside a subscription service rather than renting or buying. Netflix has been the first US streaming home for Sony Pictures films since 2022, and for wider releases the theatrical-to-Netflix gap has stayed close to 120 days. Count from July 10 and you land on November 7 exactly.
The same rhythm showed up on bigger Sony Pictures Classics titles over the past year:
- Eleanor the Great opened September 26, 2025 and reached Netflix on January 24, 2026, 120 days later.
- Nuremberg opened November 7, 2025 and hit Netflix on March 7, 2026, again 120 days on the dot.
Smaller SPC releases have not followed that schedule. Jodie Foster’s A Private Life, I Swear and A Magnificent Life all arrived many months after limited runs. A 1,000-screen release puts this title in the fixed-window group.
What planners should take from it
For media and streaming teams, the date is a planning input. This is a US-only SVOD story under the existing Sony deal, not the global Pay-1 agreement that begins in 2027. Netflix is expected to carry the film for 18 months before it moves to Disney+ and Hulu. In the UK, Canada and Australia, the wait will be longer.
The takeaway is less about this one comedy’s modest box office and more about the pipeline. When Sony opens a title wide enough, the next stop is a predictable Netflix date. When it opens small, the window can stretch.
The setup
Gail, played by Deutch, is a Kansas hairdresser with a running celebrity pass agreement with her fiance. When she learns he has quietly changed his pick, she sets out to even the score with hers: Jon Hamm. John Slattery also plays himself, while a briefcase of classified documents puts Italian assassins on her trail. It runs 94 minutes and is rated R.
For film-business followers, the box office is modest. The window is the headline.
