418 Day 1: Telugu powers ₹2.65 cr opening

Horror-thriller 418 took ₹2.65 crore in India net collections on its opening day, from 1,783 shows. The India gross stood at ₹3.05 crore, and the day’s average was ₹14,863 per show. But the headline number hides a sharply regional result.

The split that matters

Nearly all the money came from one language. Telugu shows delivered ₹2.43 crore of the ₹2.65 crore net total, or 91.7%. Hindi, despite 613 shows, managed just ₹10 lakh. Tamil added ₹7 lakh from 147 shows and Kannada ₹5 lakh from only 27 shows.

  • Telugu: ₹2.43 cr net from 996 shows
  • Hindi: ₹10 lakh net from 613 shows
  • Tamil: ₹7 lakh net from 147 shows
  • Kannada: ₹5 lakh net from 27 shows

The A-rated horror-thriller, set in a rural medical college, released on 23 October 2026 with a 2 hour 28 minute runtime.

Occupancy shows where the demand actually is

The overall occupancy was 26.6%. But that average hides two different films. Hindi (2D) shows ran at 7.1% overall; Bengaluru was the best Hindi market at 28.0%, followed by Pune at 11.5% and Mumbai at 10.0%. Kannada, by contrast, ran at 47.5% overall, with Mysuru at 98.0% and Bengaluru at 97.5%.

Telugu shows peaked in the afternoon at 34.1%, above the all-day Telugu figure of 29.9%. AP/Telangana was the biggest gross state at ₹2.25 crore, or 73.8% of the tracked ₹3.05 crore gross; Karnataka added ₹55 lakh.

The planning lesson

For media planners and distributors, the opening is not a four-language national performance. It is a Telugu-led start, with a small but efficient Kannada micro-market and a very weak Hindi theatrical play. Hindi’s 7.1% occupancy across 613 shows means most of those screens stayed empty for the version they carried.

Kannada’s high occupancy is also an availability signal: only 27 Kannada shows ran on day one. When Mysuru and Bengaluru are near full, a few more screens could be incremental revenue if the print is expanded.

Forward signal

The advance for day two gives the first forward indicator. By 11:00 PM IST on 23 October, 58,653 tickets worth ₹96.42 lakh were sold for day two. The number to watch next is whether Telugu holds and whether Kannada’s high occupancy converts into more shows over the weekend.
