Netflix India is widening its regional-language shelf. The platform has signed a content partnership with Bengali streamer Hoichoi to carry the studio’s scripted titles and build new original series for Indian audiences.
Under the deal, every Hoichoi series premiering over the next two years will be made available on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The partnership starts with a slate spanning crime thrillers, detective mysteries, folklore horror, courtroom drama and romance.
First title arrives November 6
The opening title is The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi, a folklore horror series starring Jeetu Kamal, Solanki Roy and Paoli Dam. It is set to premiere on November 6, with more titles following in the coming months.
Netflix confirmed an initial lineup that includes murder mystery Madam Inspector, social drama Sampurna, detective franchise Eken Sirji, and other titles such as Lajja, Anjaan Saaye, The Curse of Parnashavari, Bloodlines, The Adventures of Daadi & Jagga, Raat Abhi Baaki Hain, Achinta: Trial By Law, Shaadi Ka Siyappa, Queens, Parineeta: A Love Story and Mahanagar.
Originals beyond the library
The two companies will also collaborate on original series produced by Hoichoi Studios. These projects, Netflix said, will reimagine select Hoichoi stories, with details to be announced soon.
For Hoichoi, the arrangement puts a Bengali-focused catalogue in front of Netflix’s pan-India subscriber base without building separate Hindi, Tamil and Telugu marketing engines. For Netflix, it deepens a local-language pipeline at a moment when regional content is a retention battleground.
Why it matters for the screen business
Licensing a complete regional slate changes the programming math. Instead of commissioning or acquiring one hit at a time, Netflix picks up a rolling pipeline, which keeps the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu libraries fresher at a predictable cost. The risk sits on execution: poor dubbing or cultural flatness can make a strong Bengali story feel like generic filler.
- All Hoichoi series premiering over the next two years come to Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
- The first title, The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi, premieres November 6.
- Netflix and Hoichoi Studios will co-develop original series that reimagine selected stories.
Netflix has been stepping up its India presence: the service marks its 10th year in the country, announced an India-produced slate in February, and in August its co-CEO Ted Sarandos met prime minister Narendra Modi to discuss the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative.
