Jailer 2 is finishing its opening week with a number that matters more than the daily hold: ₹582.45 crore in worldwide gross. After a ₹28.15 crore net Day 7 in India, the Rajinikanth sequel has already reset the 2026 Indian box-office ladder.
Day 7 by the numbers
According to Sacnilk data cited by The Economic Times, the film played 14,470 domestic shows on Wednesday. Its total India net collection now stands at ₹317.20 crore; with taxes included, the India gross is ₹371.45 crore. The Tamil version is doing the heavy lifting: ₹18.50 crore from 6,914 shows. Telugu added ₹6 crore from 2,187 shows, Hindi ₹3 crore from 5,183 shows, and Kannada ₹65 lakh from 186 shows. Overseas added ₹7 crore on Day 7, taking the foreign gross to ₹211 crore.
The ₹600 crore mark is no longer a stretch target; it is the next stop, likely within the first week.
The milestone math
- Jailer 2, Day 7 worldwide: ₹582.45 crore
- Hanuman Ansh lifetime: ₹439 crore
- Border 2 lifetime: about ₹464 crore
- Leo lifetime: ₹605 crore; Jailer lifetime: ₹609 crore
- 2.0: about ₹691 crore, still the highest-grossing Tamil film on the list cited
The sequel passed Border 2 and Hanuman Ansh within its first five days, according to the report. That changes the ranking conversation: Jailer 2 is no longer being compared with opening-week peers; it is being measured against the lifetime totals of Rajinikanth’s own catalogue.
What the version split tells planners
For media planners and distribution teams, the useful signal is the Tamil contribution. A ₹18.50 crore Tamil day against smaller Telugu and Hindi numbers shows a film still leaning on its home market while other versions add incremental gross. The smaller Hindi share suggests the dubbed push is not the story; the franchise is.
The gap between India net and India gross also matters: ₹317.20 crore net against ₹371.45 crore gross is the tax-inclusive difference. It is a reminder to keep the definitions straight when comparing reports.
Why the sequel works
Sun Pictures produced the sequel, and Nelson Dilipkumar returns as director. Rajinikanth is back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the role he played in 2023’s Jailer. Returning cast includes Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik; new names include S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna. Special appearances by Hrithik Roshan, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff add cross-market awareness, with Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music.
The strategic takeaway is not that a sequel exists. It is that the sequel was built around the original’s most cited asset: Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. For an actor who has historically been selective about revisiting hits, that choice signals a shift in how Indian star vehicles can be franchised.
What to watch next
The opening week needs to close above ₹600 crore. After that, the film has two clear benchmarks: Leo at ₹605 crore and Jailer at ₹609 crore. Both are within reach if weekday holds remain steady. The bigger target is 2.0 at about ₹691 crore, which still tops the Tamil list cited in the report.
