Monday drop resets the film’s box-office trajectory
Kunal Kemmu’s VIBE added Rs 90 lakh in India net on its first Monday, taking the four-day domestic net total to Rs 8.35 crore, according to Sacnilk data cited by The Times of India. The Monday number is 70% lower than Sunday’s Rs 3.00 crore, a steep fall even for a mid-size action comedy.
The day-wise India net trend is clear:
- Friday: Rs 1.70 crore
- Saturday: Rs 2.75 crore
- Sunday: Rs 3.00 crore
- Monday: Rs 0.90 crore
Monday occupancy fell to 11.0% across 2,609 shows, against 23.0% on Sunday. The weekend showed growth, but the first working day suggests the film is playing mainly to an urban, weekend-heavy audience rather than building broader weekday momentum.
What the global split tells us
After four days, VIBE has grossed Rs 10.00 crore in India and Rs 1.50 crore overseas, for a worldwide gross of Rs 11.50 crore. Overseas is contributing only about 13% of worldwide gross, a modest share for a Hindi film with recognisable names like Preity Zinta and Kunal Kemmu.
For distribution and OTT acquisition teams, the early signal is caution. A front-loaded weekend and a sharp Monday fall often cap a film’s theatrical multiplier. That can influence the timing of a streaming window and the value of a digital or satellite license, especially for a title that does not appear to be converting weekend sampling into weekday repeat viewing.
Why the Monday number matters
In India, Monday is the first true test of post-weekend demand. A 70% drop is high, though some mid-range films recover if weekday holds are stable from Tuesday onward. The film’s India net total is Rs 8.35 crore after four days; the weekend contributed Rs 7.45 crore, or about 89% of the total. If weekdays continue near Rs 0.90 crore, the first-week collection would land around Rs 11 crore, leaving little headroom before the next release cycle begins.
For ScreenStat readers tracking the talent business, VIBE is also a case study in multi-role filmmaking. Kemmu directs, stars, and is making his producing debut on the project after 2024’s Madgaon Express. The box-office outcome will be read as a commercial signal for his second directorial, as well as a test of whether a star-led action comedy can generate sufficient theatrical legs before its streaming afterlife.
