Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is a rounding error away from the ₹300-crore India net mark. Early Wednesday estimates, reported by Sacnilk and tracked by The Times of India, put the Nelson Dilipkumar-directed sequel at ₹298.20 crore India net after adding ₹9.15 crore on Day 7 so far. India gross stands at ₹349.25 crore, while worldwide gross has hit ₹542.45 crore.
The milestone is not the story. The language split is.
Day 7 is a Tamil-led weekday
Across 6,653 shows in three language markets, the Tamil version is doing most of the work:
- Tamil: ₹6.37 crore from 3,157 shows
- Telugu: ₹2.03 crore from 1,060 shows
- Hindi: ₹0.75 crore from 2,436 shows
These are provisional figures for the day, so they will move. But the early pattern is clear: Tamil screens are filling efficiently, and the Hindi version is under-indexing relative to its screen count.
Why the split matters for planners
A quick per-show read is revealing. At this point in the day, Tamil is averaging roughly ₹20,000 per show, Telugu about ₹19,000, and Hindi about ₹3,100. That makes Jailer 2 behave like a Tamil-first title with a Telugu support pocket, not a uniform pan-India performer.
The sequel brings back Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Mithun Chakraborty and S. J. Suryah in key roles, and music by Anirudh Ravichander. That ensemble supports the multi-language push, but the early numbers show the core audience is still led by the Tamil version.
For media planners and distribution teams, that means language versions should be planned as separate products. The Hindi release has more screens than Telugu but is generating less than half the Telugu collection in early numbers.
What to watch next
The next ₹1.8 crore to the ₹300-crore India net milestone will most likely come from Tamil and Telugu shows, not Hindi. But the more useful signal is the final Wednesday hold: it will show whether the opening-week audience is converting into weekday demand.
The film’s first six days have already shown strong repeat patterns: ₹59.70 crore on Day 1, a dip to ₹37.10 crore on Day 2, then ₹47.25 crore, ₹55.85 crore, ₹42.35 crore and ₹46.80 crore. A solid hold on Day 7 would mean the sequel is not just front-loaded.
